The 2022 World Series began Friday night Philadelphia Phillies surprised Houston Astros with a comeback win in Game 1. The Phillies erased a five-run deficit Justin Verlander, and the winning run on JT Realmuto’s 10th-inning homer. Philadelphia has now won the third World Series title in franchise history three times (also 1980 and 2008). Houston, meanwhile, will look to even the series at home on Saturday night.

Historically, teams with best-of-seven Game 1 wins have won 64 percent of the series, although the Game 1 winner has won the last four World Series and 13 of the last 16 World Series. The series isn’t over yet, but the Phillies put themselves in a good spot by stealing Game 1 despite a 5-0 loss to Verlander.

Philadelphia’s streak of fate continued in Game 1 with a five-run comeback and a game-saving play. Nick Castellanos, one of the worst defensive players in the sport. Indeed, the win in Game 1 showed just how dangerous the Phillies are. Their lineup is loaded with plus hit tool guys manager Ron Thomson hit all the right buttons this October. The Astros were the best team during the long 162 game season, although a good team doesn’t always win short postseason series. Houston lost its home-court advantage in the series and lost the game after the team’s ace. A win in Game 2 is crucial for Philadelphia to avoid a 2-0 series deficit.

All signs point to the Phillies in Game 2. They have their ace on the mound in Wheeler, and the offense has been more productive against lefties than righties in the regular season. That said, Valdez is no ordinary lefty, and I have a hard time believing these Astros are going to lose two games at home. Houston is a Game 2 favorite.

Choose: Astros 5, Phillies 3
