A nice purge… – Dbrief and NOTES from the players (Uruguay 0-0 Core du Sud) – Football

After a poor quality encounter, Uruguay and South Korea failed to separate (0-0) in their first match of Group H of the World Cup in Qatar on Thursday. A disappointing result for the two teams, which never seemed capable of making a difference.

Valverde touched the post late in the game.

And four! After Tunisia-Denmark, Mexico-Poland and Morocco-Croatia, the World Cup in Qatar gave birth to the fourth 0-0 draw in the match between Uruguay and South Korea, this Thursday, on the sidelines of the opening of the group. A technically very average match between two teams that stuttered their football.

Godin touches the post

Driven by a large colony in the stands, the Koreans showed an interesting face in the first quarter of an hour with a good technical command. A sterile domain against the Uruguayans who are still equally comfortable on long balls and counter-attacks. After a first chance for Valverde, imprecise on his second half, Nuez was too short to hit back on goal with a still ideal throw by Pellistri.

Despite these fears, Paulo Bento’s men did not give up. In the wake of an excellent In-Beom Hwang in midfield, the Taeguk Warriors have definitively settled in the opposing field. The former Bordeaux player, Hwang Ui-Jo, had the opportunity to open the scoring but his attempt on the penalty spot did not find the target. A great opportunity that cools La Cleste, but close to scoring with a header from Godin that breaks through the post before the break.

Valverde also hit the post

Upon returning from the locker room, the quality of the match was declining dramatically. Bad passes, bad checks, the two teams stuttered football and offered little. Despite Cavani’s appearance, the match never got off the ground. The only emotions were Nuez’s taut shot which went very close to the target and Valverde’s cannon shot which grazed the post as the recovery approached. Not enough to save a meeting that didn’t keep its promises.

Match Score: 3/10

One of the worst matches of this World Cup. The two teams obtained very rare chances but gave the impression of playing for hours without ever being able to find the fault despite the two posts touched by Uruguay. A very disappointing show when the stands were quite lively. But with 0 shots on goal it’s hard to have fun.

Maxifoot assigned a score (out of 10) to each player’s comments.

Man of the match: Jos Maria Gimnez (7/10)

A clean copy that of Atletico’s central defender, who delighted in his long openings on the right wing. He has never been overwhelmed by South Korean forwards, notably making an outstanding tackle in his own box to prevent Son from lighting the fuse. Good match for Colchonero.

Sergio Rochet (5) : Muslera’s successor had little work to do. Aside from a successful outing to avoid danger against Hwang midway through the second period, he wasn’t worried. Note a bad raise at the end of the game that almost gave Son an advantage.

Martin Cáceres (6) : Still and ever present in Uruguay’s starting lineup, the multitalented defender found it difficult to face Son. He contained the Tottenham striker quite well despite a serious foul which logically earned him a yellow card after the break.

Diego Godn (6.5) : the indestructible central defender passed by Atletico Madrid responded once again present. Close to opening the scoring before the break with a header off the post, he managed Hwang’s runs well by anticipating thanks to clever positioning.

Jose Maria Gimnez (7) : read the comment above.

Matha Olivera (6) : The left-back was much more attacking than Caceres with sharp points. In the first period, he is not far from offering a Nuez caviar, thorough. An interesting activity. Replace 79th minute with Matias Vina (not not).

Federico Valverde (5.5) : The new attraction of Uruguayan football has put the spotlight on him. Unfortunately for his team, he hasn’t had the desired influence. Aside from a pivot shot early in the game and a powerful shot to the post late in the game, we’ve hardly seen him in this game.

Nearby bushes (5) : the Lazio player has made his appearance. He never thought of picking up the pace to put his attacking teammates in much better shape. Replace 79th minute with Nicolas De la Cruz (no no).

Rodrigo Bentancur (5) : Very neutral match for the Tottenham centre. He was content to act as a link between his defenders and attackers without ever being able to speed up the game. A harmful lack of initiative.

Making Pellistri (4) : The young Manchester United striker didn’t bring much. Although he was restless and provided good ball from a misused header by Nuez, his game was too poor to shake the South Korean defence. Replace the 88th minute with Guillermo Varela (not not).

Louis Surez (3) : Back at Nacional to prepare for this tournament, the La Cleste striker still has a few extra pounds which really prevented him from offering interesting solutions to his teammates. In this match he brought absolutely nothing. Replace the 64th minute with Edinson Cavani (not not)who performed a tra more than any other.

Darwin Nez (4.5) : Lined out on the left of attack and favored Cavani, the most expensive rookie in Liverpool’s history was average. Too messy on his shots, he wasted several opportunities due to inaccurate passes. However, the Rossoneri got one of the few chances in the second period with a shot on the run that grazed the target.

Seung Gyu Kim (5) : almost no work for him. The Al Shabab goalkeeper can however thank his posts who saved him twice at the end of each period.

Kim Moon Hwan (6) : lack of offensive spirit. However, the right-back performed well in defense, blocking his lane well against Nuez.

Min Jae Kim (6) : expected in the round for his first match in a World Cup, the solid rock of Napoli held its line. He got scared shortly after the hour with a crash that didn’t help Nunez. An action in which his calf hurts but which does not prevent him from going all the way.

Young Gwon Kim (6) : a good outing for the Gamba Osaka defender. He stands out with a nice save against Pellistri on the left side of the area.

Jin Su Kim (6.5) : the left-back was impeccable defensively to contain Pellistri. He gave his central defense a hand several times to close the Suarez gap in depth on his runs.

In Beom Hwang (6) : good match for the Olympiakos midfielder who practically rejected the match in the first half hour. He was effective in the second half, blocking spaces well against his Uruguayan counterparts.

Woo Young Jung (6) : Al Sadd player did the job. His power in dueling posed problems for Uruguayan circles, who had a lot of trouble getting rid of him. A game of duty.

Na Sangho (4.5) : An interesting but useless activity on the left wing for the FC Soul player. However, his physical deficit played tricks on him against a colossal defense. Replace the 75th minute with Lee Kang-In (not not).

Jae Sung Lee (3) : transparent. The Mainz playmaker didn’t weigh in this match. On his rare balls he crashed into the Uruguayan defensive block against which he did not find the solution. Replace the 75th minute with Son Jun-Ho (not not).

Heung Min Son (5) : well and truly present for this first match despite the eye injury against OM, the Tottenham striker did what he could with few usable balls. He closes this game with two chances that shook the Uruguayan defence.

Eui-Jo Hwang (4) : the ex-Bordeaux striker obviously hasn’t changed! Despite his interesting activity, the Olympiakos striker still has the same efficiency problems, such as his missed spot kick in the first half. A lack that took him out of his game. Replace the 75th minute with Cho Gue-Sung (not).
