College football picks, schedule: predictions vs. spread, odds for top 25 games in Week 13

College football picks, schedule: predictions vs. spread, odds for top 25 games in Week 13

After rivalry week ends, only conference championship games are played between the top teams in the nation and the College Football Playoff on Saturday night. Those odds dwindle each Saturday as the final week of the season continues, and some of the aforementioned contenders will be in hotly contested games, the kind of contests that could make or break a season.

The biggest game of the day is the Game itself. No. 2 Ohio State hosts No. 3 Michigan, with the winner advancing to the Big Ten Championship Game and earning the inside track for the CFP. The loser watches from the sidelines and hopes that some form of chaos will allow him to sneak into the four-team field. Jim Harbaugh is looking for his second win after leading the Wolverines to their first series win since 2011, and Ryan Day is hoping to avoid becoming the first Buckeyes coach to lose back-to-back games since John Cooper (1999-2000). .

The second seed in playoff implications is Saturday night’s contest between No. 6 USC and No. 10 Notre Dame. A win could vault the Trojans into fourth place in the CFP next Tuesday, while a loss would eliminate the Pac-12 from playoff contention for the sixth time in eight editions of the event.

Also on deck is No. 7 Alabama visiting Auburn for the SEC Iron Bowl in the CBS Game of the Week, No. 8 Clemson at South Carolina, which stunned Tennessee last week, and No. 9 Oregon Civil War. No. 21 Oregon State had a great season for both programs.

Stay tuned to CBS Sports all day college football coverage from opening. Let’s take a look at our expert picks for the best games of the competition week.

#3 Michigan, #2 Ohio State

Favorite game | Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines

In the afternoon | Fox, fuboTV (Try it for free) — I don’t know who will win this game. I’ve played both sides of the experts’ picks. I picked Ohio State straight up, but the Wolverines were against the spread. The truth? I have low confidence in both choices. I really like the bottom. The way I see it, if Michigan is going to win, it needs to be done on the ground. This should keep the score down. Plus, Ohio State didn’t face as many defenses as Michigan. When he was there, we saw him struggle against the offense. Besides, if there is going to be a blowout, I have to guess it will be in Ohio’s favor; however, that will only happen if Michigan doesn’t score. All of these scenarios end up with a score below 56 points. Forecast: 56 under –Tom Fornelli

South Carolina at #8 Clemson

Favorite game | Clemson Tigers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

In the afternoon | ABC, fuboTV (Try it for free) — Can lightning strike twice? Of course, why not. Clemson dominated this matchup, having won seven games since 2014. However, as the Tigers find their rhythm, Shane Beamer gets Gamecocks. Quarterback Spencer Rattler rediscovered his mojo with a school-record six touchdown passes in a 63-38 win over No. 10 Tennessee. South Carolina has scored on nine of 10 possessions and won back-to-back winning seasons. If things go right, South Carolina has a path to having the best quarterback on the field. Prediction: South Carolina +430 — Shehan Jeyarajah

Auburn at No. 7 Alabama

Favorite game | Alabama vs. Crimson Tide. Auburn Tigers

15:30 | CBS, CBSSports.com, The CBS Sports appI’ll take the Crimson Tide to win and close, but it won’t be easy. Auburn’s rushing attack has been lethal, but the Crimson Tide has enough talent to maintain discipline and make sure Tank Bigsby and Jarques Hunter don’t break loose consistently. This defense disrupts Auburn’s offensive line and forces Robbie Ashford into some awkward spots. This game will be close to two and a half quarters, but Alabama will pull away for a late shutout. Prediction: Alabama -22 — Barrett Sally

#9 Oregon vs. #21 Oregon State

Favorite game | Oregon State Beavers vs. Oregon Ducks

15:30 | ABC, fuboTV (Try it for free) — The Ducks head into a must-win matchup against their bitter rivals, but Oregon State isn’t taking things easy. The Beavers are coming off losses to Washington and USC, and they boast one of the best defenses in the Pac-12. Ultimately, the health of Oregon quarterback Bo Nix will decide this game, and his narrow win over Utah is enough to clinch the Ducks a spot in the Pac-12 Championship. Prediction: Oregon -3 — Shehan Jeyarajah

#5 LSU at Texas A&M

Favorite game | Texas A&M Aggies vs. LSU Tigers

19.00 | ESPN, fuboTV (Try it for free) — Texas A&M wants its season from hell to the end. LSU has a College Football Playoff berth. The difference in motivation between these two teams is off the charts, not even considering the skill and coaching gaps between the two programs. A double-digit streak is huge, but the Tigers are all about business. Prediction: LSU -10 — Shehan Jeyarajah

No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 6 USC

Favorite game | USC Trojans vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

19:30 | ABC, fuboTV (Try it for free) — The Trojans are going to find Notre Dame one of their toughest tests of the season, as Irish tackle Caleb Williams tries to play away from tight end Caleb Williams with a solid ground game, then complements that with a bend-but-don’t-break defense. But if I’m forced to choose between Williams and Drew Pine in a close game, I’ll side with the Heisman Trophy contender. Prediction: USC -5.5 — Chip Patterson
