DJ Reid: Zach Wilson ‘definitely got credit’ with what he said on Wednesday.
After the Jets quarterback Zach Wilson Lost his starting job on Wednesday, he spoke to reporters about his response to last Sunday’s loss to the Patriots.
Wilson went 22-for-77 yards in a game in which the Jets were down 10-3 on a punt return in the final seconds, and he said afterward that he didn’t feel the team’s defense was letting it down. That opinion led to negative feelings in the team’s locker room, and Wilson said Wednesday, “how I reacted things went wrong.”
Wilson said he spoke directly to his teammates about the incident and the corner DJ Reid said that he accepted the words of the quarterback well.
“What he said he was very real,” Reed said, via Mark Cannizzaro New York Post. “It came from his heart. It was very real. He definitely closed his heart. If he doesn’t have it, he will definitely be respected and honored by what he said today.”
Mike White starts this Sunday, but word from the Jets has been that they want Wilson to use this time to rehabilitate himself once he returns to the lineup. It is unclear when this might happen, but processing the outcome of his comments was a necessary part of the process.
